Katie’s Hut named after Saint Katharina Kasper, foundress of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, is a hermitage built from straw, clay and sand. The roof is thatched. Building materials for the most part have been harvested from the PHJC Property. The interior is 14 feet in diameter and the exterior is 18 feet. The foundation is built from urbanite (cracked up concrete sidewalks). The interior is finished off with earthen finishes. Katie’s Hut contains a desk and rocking chair. There is a nearby outhouse. Retreatants can bring their own food.
This is an ideal setting for people seeking a day of prayer and silence.
